Job Description

Shades of Gray Design Studio is a boutique interior design studio here in the San Antonio, TX area, specializing in residential full room design, remodels, and custom new builds. Our aesthetic is a modern, contemporary vibe and we love to create bold, unique designs using color and texture. We want to create beautiful spaces to help busy professionals who value good, high quality design but don’t have the time or the expertise to do it themselves. Our studio values integrity and an exceptional client experience. Our goal is to achieve livable luxury for our clients that evokes a fun, comfortable environment without the pretentiousness. The successful applicant resides in the San Antonio, TX area and will be a design assistant to the owner and principal designer. They will collaborate with the principal designer, vendors, contractors, and clients to find solutions that accomplish the clients’ design needs. This individual will be motivated, highly organized, and have a fun, positive attitude. The position is part-­‐time with a potential to become full-time, and pay will be based on experience level. This will be a hybrid work style (combines time on-site and remote work).

Essential Job Functions:

• Create floor plans, space planning and interior elevations (preferably using SketchUp or experience with 3D rendering software).

• Survey existing spaces—measure on-­‐site dimensions, document design characteristics, take photos for reference.

• Develop and maintain relationships with new and existing clients, general contractors, and other design disciplines.

• Create and revise Finish Schedules, Paint Schedules, and Scopes of Work.

• Create and revise plumbing, appliance, and lighting schedules.

• Create meeting agendas as needed, take notes during meetings, and provide notes to the principal designer.

• Create moodboards/presentations of selections for client review (using PowerPoint or Canva).

• Document billable hours and keep log of project timelines.

• Assist with procurement process to include creating purchase orders and invoices, placing orders for materials and products, tracking shipments and deliveries, coordinating with vendors, trades, and receiver.

• Assist in administrative duties as necessary.

Other duties may include contacting vendors and contractors; organizing materials in the studio; researching new products and vendors; assisting with photo shoots; assist with project install days, making accessory purchases for styling; and making selections for furniture, fixtures, picking up and dropping off samples, etc.

Minimum Qualifications:

Associate in Interior Design or related field is not required but preferred. Must possess General Liability insurance. Experience working professionally in a customer service position.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Basic knowledge of design process including experience with space planning and reviewing construction documentation and furniture and lighting specifications.

• Strong creativity and artistic sense.

• Strong administrative skills.

• Strong customer service skills.

• Experience with 3D rendering software and ability to use it to produce plans and elevations.

• Skill in clear oral and written communication.

• Skill in organizing and planning.

• Ability to work on multiple projects with different timelines -- strong time management skills.

• Ability to be flexible and to anticipate project needs and direction.

• Ability to work independently and collaboratively. Willingness and drive to learn!

• Knowledge of Google Workspace (formerly known as G-Suite), Adobe Creative Suite, Squarespace, and Mac platform a plus.
